The most important teaching of Tsenshap Serkong Rinpoche
In June 1983, the previous Tsenshap Serkong Rinpoche came to Tabo Monastery for the Kalachakra initiation held by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. Afterwards, he spent more time in Tabo and also in other places in Spiti Valley.
During this period, just two months before his passing in August 1983, Tsenshap Serkong Rinpoche sat with Alex Berzin to record a teaching on equalising and exchanging self with others. The focus was on how to overcome a self-cherishing attitude – the biggest source of our unhappiness – and to adopt an attitude that cherishes others. Tsenshap Serkong Rinpoche asked Alex Berzin to write everything down word by word and to keep it very well, as he considered it his most important teaching.
